The 11 Swire Chinese Language Centres currently reach around 21,000 pupils across 134 schools. Each is led by a secondary school working with partner secondary and feeder primary schools, with several also delivering teacher training.
The Programme has primarily been targeted at state-funded schools, particularly in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities. It has also been supported by strong partnerships with independent schools, which have played an important role in developing several Centres. The new Centre for the Learning and Teaching of Chinese at Oxford University will build on this foundation through collaboration with the Programme’s network of schools and teachers, as well as the wider Chinese language education community.
